Bhagwat Gita Chapter 2 verse 62 - 63 object- sense-attachment-desire-anger

 

Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 20

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचि
नायं भूत्वा भविता वा न भूय: |
अजो नित्य: शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे || 20||

na jāyate mriyate vā kadāchin
nāyaṁ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ
ajo nityaḥ śhāśhvato ’yaṁ purāṇo
na hanyate hanyamāne śharīre

na jāyateis not bornmriyatediesorkadāchitat any timenanotayamthisbhūtvāhaving once existedbhavitāwill beornanotbhūyaḥfurtherajaḥunbornnityaḥeternalśhāśhvataḥimmortalayamthispurāṇaḥthe ancientna hanyateis not destroyedhanyamāneis destroyedśharīrewhen the body

na jayate mriyate va kadachin
nayam bhutva bhavita va na bhuyah
ajo nityah shashvato ’yam purano
na hanyate hanyamane sharire

Translation

BG 2.20: The soul is neither born, nor does it ever die; nor having once existed, does it ever cease to be. The soul is without birth, eternal, immortal, and ageless. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.


Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 47

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि || 47 ||

karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣhu kadāchana
mā karma-phala-hetur bhūr mā te saṅgo ’stvakarmaṇi

karmany-evadhikaras te ma phaleshu kadachana
ma karma-phala-hetur bhur ma te sango ’stvakarmani

Translation

BG 2.47: You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.

dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate

krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ sammohāt smṛiti-vibhramaḥ
smṛiti-bhranśhād buddhi-nāśho buddhi-nāśhāt praṇaśhyati


Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 62

ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंस: सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते |
सङ्गात्सञ्जायते काम: कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते || 62||

dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate

dhyāyataḥcontemplatingviṣhayānsense objectspuṁsaḥof a personsaṅgaḥattachmentteṣhuto them (sense objects)upajāyatearisessaṅgātfrom attachmentsañjāyatedevelopskāmaḥdesirekāmātfrom desirekrodhaḥangerabhijāyatearises

dhyayato vishayan pumsah sangas teshupajayate
sangat sanjayate kamah kamat krodho ’bhijayate

While contemplating on the objects of the senses, one develops attachment to them. Attachment leads to desire, and from desire arises anger.



Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 63

क्रोधाद्भवति सम्मोह: सम्मोहात्स्मृतिविभ्रम: |
स्मृतिभ्रंशाद् बुद्धिनाशो बुद्धिनाशात्प्रणश्यति || 63||

krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ sammohāt smṛiti-vibhramaḥ
smṛiti-bhranśhād buddhi-nāśho buddhi-nāśhāt praṇaśhyati

krodhātfrom angerbhavaticomessammohaḥclouding of judgementsammohātfrom clouding of judgementsmṛitimemoryvibhramaḥbewildermentsmṛiti-bhranśhātfrom bewilderment of memorybuddhi-nāśhaḥdestruction of intellectbuddhi-nāśhātfrom destruction of intellectpraṇaśhyatione is ruined

krodhad bhavati sammohah sammohat smriti-vibhramah
smriti-bhranshad buddhi-nasho buddhi-nashat pranashyati

Translation

BG 2.63: Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and when the intellect is destroyed, one is ruined.
