Bhagwat Gita Chapter 3

 

A PROMISE FOR ALL HUMANITY
GIVEN BY SHRI KRISHNA TO ARJUNA
Every VERB is a Karma

'karmanye vadhika raste, Ma phaleshu kadachana' is famous shloka from Gita. Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna the theory of Karmas. He said believe in yourself and do your Karma (action) and success will follow you automatically. Doing Karma is in our hands only, Result is not in our hands. Below given is meaning of famous Shloka from Bhagavad Gita. 

कर्मण्ये वाधिका रस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
मा कर्म फल हेतु र्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्व कर्मणि॥

Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 9

यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धन: |
तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्ग: समाचर || 9||

yajñārthāt karmaṇo ’nyatra loko ’yaṁ karma-bandhanaḥ
tad-arthaṁ karma kaunteya mukta-saṅgaḥ samāchara

Translation

BG 3.9: Work must be done as a yajna to the Supreme Lord; otherwise, work causes bondage in this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, for the satisfaction of God, perform your prescribed duties, without being attached to the results.


Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 30

मयि सर्वाणि कर्माणि संन्यस्याध्यात्मचेतसा |
निराशीर्निर्ममो भूत्वा युध्यस्व विगतज्वर: || 30||

mayi sarvāṇi karmāṇi          sannyasyādhyātma-chetasā

nirāśhīr nirmamo bhūtvā       yudhyasva vigata-jvaraḥ

Translation

BG 3.30: Performing all works as an offering unto Me, constantly meditate on Me as the Supreme. Become free from desire and selfishness, and with your mental grief departed, fight!

Commentary

In his typical style, Shree Krishna expounds on a topic and then finally presents the summary. The words adhyātma chetasā mean “with the thoughts resting on God.” Sanyasya means “renouncing all activities that are not dedicated to him.” Nirāśhīḥ means “without hankering for the results of the actions.” The consciousness of dedicating all actions to God requires forsaking claim to proprietorship, and renouncing all desire for personal gain, hankering, and lamentation.

The summary of the instructions in the previous verses is that one should very faithfully reflect, “My soul is a tiny part of the Supreme Lord Shree Krishna. He is the Enjoyer and Master of all. All my works are meant for his pleasure, and thus, I should perform my duties in the spirit of yajña or sacrifice to him. He supplies the energy by which I accomplish works of yajña. Thus, I should not take credit for any actions authored by me.”


Mayi sarvaani karmaani
San-nyasyaa’dhyaatma-chetasaa
Nir-aasheer nir-mamo bhootwaa
Yudhyaswa vigata-jwarah (3:30)

Arjuna! Leave the final responsibility of your actions to me with your mind fixed on God. Free from tormenting hopes and from egoism, and delivered from the fever of irrational thinking, fight this Battle.

[Shri Krishna is saying to Arjuna: Focus your mind on God, do what you have to do, and leave the final responsibility of your actions to me, because I am the one recommending that you fight this duty-sanctioned War. In focusing on God, your motives will always connect with high values, and so, your will shall be a reflection of the Divine Will and your action shall conform to Divine Action.
Anchored in God, your actions will not be selfish, but will aim at redeeming the world from injustice and oppression, poverty and want.
Furthermore, free yourself from the binding ropes of hope and egoism. Hope is related to the unborn future, while egoism is the lingering memory of the dead past. Both hope, selfish hope, and egoism torment the Soul. Live in the present, Arjuna, in the active dynamic present, and while living in the present, do not be consumed by the fever of irrationality, anxiety and stress.
Irrationality, anxiety and stress come to an untrained mind when It is faced with unfavorable circumstances. Free from limitations in focus, your mind will never be subject to turbulence.

Compare: Arjuna! Give up all (lesser) duties and take refuge in me alone. I will free you from all sins. Do not grieve! – Gita 18:66.]
